I profoundly understood my life path and personality by peering through the lens of the Tzolk’in Mayan Astrology. I was humbled and astonished by the accuracy when reflecting on my life path while evaluating my own “Mayan Tree of Life,” (pictured above) which is ancient Mayan Astrological calculation that charts one’s own unique life path through 3 major life stages; “Youth,” “Adult,” and becoming your Destiny as an “Elder.”
Your Mayan Tree of Life, contains certain crucial cycles in your life; these stages of life are roughly 13 years long. Your Mayan Tree of Life is comprised of the following life stages:
Youth (0-13 years old)
Transitional Period (13-26 years old)
Adult (26-39 years old)
Transitional Period (39-52 years old)
Elder (52 years old until the end of your life)
In addition to having a Central Nawal, each of your main Stages of Life have a Masculine Nawal and a Feminine Nawal which offer guidance on how best to put into action and apply the archetypical energies of your Central Nawal. Throughout each of three your Stages of Life, your Masculine Nawales relate to your logic, action, and your “outer world,” such as service to your community. Your Feminine Nawales, shape your “inner world,” such as your intuition, feelings, and your intimate relationships.
In Fatih Kecelioglu’s book, Sacred teachings of Mayan Astrology, he quotes the following meditation from Kenneth Johnson that I find extremely beneficial when visualizing your own Mayan Tree Life, which can be viewed as your own medicine wheel comprised of the four directions:
“Stand and face east, arms extended from your sides like a cross. Imagine that your future lies before you in the East, with your children, all your descendants, and all your lives.
Behind you, in the West, are your ancestors and your past existences.
To your right, in the South, lie all your male qualities and the men who cross your life's path.
On your left, in the North, lie your female qualities, including the women you encounter in life.
Now, imagine that your heart center, the core of your inner World Tree, is occupied by the Nawal or Day Sign of your birth.
Behind you (West) is another Day Sign, symbolic of your karmic past...
Ahead of you (East) lies a Day Sign symbolic of your future.
On your right (South) is the Power of the Right Hand, a Day Sign symbolic of your psyche's masculine or yang energies.
On your left (North) is one more Day Sign, the Power of the Left Hand, representing your feminine or yin energies.
Your Day Sign of birth is the center of the cross, medicine wheel, or Tree of Life that includes five signs, one for each of the four directions and one for the center."[1]
I find it absolutely fascinating that I am currently in my “Adult” stage of life with my Central Adult Nawal (Day Sign Deity) being Ix who embodies the archetype of the “Astrologer, Shaman, Diviner” and my love and passion to be an Astrologer out in the world makes perfect since given that my Masculine Adult Nawal, relating to my “outer world” (e.g., business) is Lamat “The Way-shower,” who “represents the harmonious cycles of celestial bodies in sacred relationship, the star portal, the diviner that connects you with the sacred movement of planets, stars, and galaxies.”[2] Once an individual comprehends these different stages of life and how their unique combination of Nawales and Numbers are influencing them, a person can empower-themselves to positively work with theses energies to live their highest potential.
